Daytime natural color combines ABI band 1 blue (0.47 µm), band 2 red (0.64 µm), and band 3 near-IR (0.86 µm). Green is simulated because ABI has no green-visible band. Band 13 (10.3 µm) supplies nighttime infrared brightness temperature.
Auto uses the Sun’s position at each location and observation time. Natural color is available only in daylight; clouds can obscure the surface. Daytime color swatches describe the scene and are not a numeric scale. The IR grayscale legend shows brightness temperature.
Infrared-only imagery starts at 80% opacity so the map remains visible beneath it. Visible imagery starts at 100%. Moving the opacity slider keeps your chosen setting across frames and products.
New observations are selected every five minutes. NOAA delivery and processing add some delay. A complete 12-hour window has 144 observations: the first and last are 11 hours 55 minutes apart. The available coverage and any missing observations are reported below.
The available loop fills in as observations are processed.
